After months (and months) of meetings, calls, walkthroughs, planning, more calls, permitting, and COVID-19, the day is finally here. The Bulfinch Crossing Underpass Projections are live and we couldn’t be more proud to introduce this immersive and enriching public art piece to our community.
Working with the Bulfinch Crossing developers, National Real Estate Advisors and The HYM Investment Group, to enhance the current environment surrounding the 4.8-acre transformation in the center of downtown Boston, we enlisted the partnership of Studio HHH and LuminArtz to produce a one of a kind projection installation designed specifically to liven the busy underpass of the Government Center Garage.
From dusk to dawn, the underpass will be illuminated with the rotating projected art animations, custom created by highly regarded artists over the course of the coming months, beginning with Boston based visual artist, Zebbler.
Inspired by a local flower store, Zebbler’s animation entitled “City Bloom” grew from a single projection to a building-wide video texture over the course of the last few months. With verdant bursts of flowers, vines and branches slowly growing over the concrete underpass of the Government Center Garage, City Bloom is designed to bring an illuminated spark of joy to Boston, with its animation playfully exploring the boundary between a static fine art installation and a VJ performance.
We encourage you to drive, bike, or walk through the underpass to experience this art installation in person. Trust us, there’s nothing else quite like it. Bulfinch Crossing is located at 1 Congress St, Boston, MA 02114. See more on their instagram.
