Meet the 2022 Resident Organization
Future Chefs is an out-of-school time youth development program that prepares young people for success after high school, and a lifetime of economic security. They intervene in the cycle of intergenerational poverty by supporting Boston’s low-income youth of color to develop job skills while engaged in authentic, productive work in the kitchen, a medium in which teens are engaged, inspired, and challenged.
Future Chefs is dedicated to social justice and racial equality. The work that they do every day is aimed at one goal – to help low-income teens of color succeed in school and work after high school so they can achieve a life that is safe, comfortable and rewarding.
The Make it Happen Residency will collaborate with Future Chefs to create a unique experience that mimics the outcome of a ribbon-cutting event amidst challenges in limited event space and COVID gathering capabilities. We are excited to assist the organization in building out their event campaign through community engagement planning, building connections, visual and experiential design, marketing, permitting and strategy.
Young people involved in Future Chefs often face the obstacles that systemic poverty and racism create. The organization helps them gain competencies and skills needed to succeed through culinary work, which is meditative, artistic and kinetic. We are grateful and eager to help further the assist Future Chefs in their mission to create a meaningful, anti-racist, joyful and connective experience for youth.
