Construction Fencing to Art Scrim Canvas

Construction scrim is often treated as a temporary necessity, but at Isenberg Projects we see it as a powerful placemaking tool, one that can shape perception, spark curiosity, and tell a compelling story about what is to come. For Zone 3, Art Scrim transforms construction fencing into a platform for public art, turning moments of transition into opportunities for connection, creativity, and community engagement. When done thoughtfully, scrim can be more than a barrier. It can be visually striking, culturally relevant, and emotionally resonant, creating a sense of place even before a project is complete.

Since 2019, Isenberg Projects has led the strategy, curation, and implementation of Art Scrim installations as part of a broader placemaking vision for Zone 3. Working with Boston-based artists such as Anna Dugan and Yenny Hernandez, we have used large-scale printed artwork to amplify local voices, support artists, and activate the public realm along active construction sites. These installations enhance the streetscape while reflecting the identity and energy of the surrounding community.

Art Scrim builds on and connects to other Zone 3 initiatives like Walls on Western and Art in Print, forming a cohesive approach to integrating art into the built environment. Together, these programs energize Allston and beyond, and create a more engaging, creative, and welcoming public experience.
