Barry’s Shop
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Barry’s Shop was a one-of-a-kind retail shop and creative art approach to a working studio, learning, and workshop space. Curated in collaboration with area partnerships, Barry’s Shop aimed to remove social and economical barriers, making contemporary art accessible. Each sale went to supporting an artist or designer living in the greater Boston area to continue their practice making objects.
Introduced in the spring of 2016 at 267 Western Ave, the first iteration of Barry’s Shop paid homage to a traditional American grocery store, a classic symbol of commercialism and commerce. In 2017 the store was reimagined to play off of 267’s former life as a dry cleaner, delving into the world of wearable art and clothing inspired art pieces.
Barry’s Shop is a program of Zone 3, a Harvard-sparked initiative to explore experimental programs, events, and retail along Western Ave.
