LOCATION: ROXBURY, MA

YEAR: 2023

TYPE: COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION

PROJECT OVERVIEW

THE CHALLENGE: Roxbury Youth Programs (RYP) sought to establish a unique visual identity that would differentiate RYP from its parent organization and enhance appeal to local youth. We aimed to develop a logo that achieved this distinction, all while fostering creative skills among youth interns, empowering them to become catalysts for change within their communities.

THE OUTCOME: We conducted a series of workshops involving their 15 youth interns to gather their visual preferences and assess evolving designs. These workshops incorporated design language education as a means to empower their participation and creativity. This collaborative effort breathed life into the vision of these young folks while establishing a strong visual guideline that effectively encapsulates their ideas and values.

YOUTH WORKSHOP

The workshop series provided the youth with a visual language and a grasp of fundamental design principles, empowering them to actively participate in the process. This terminology guided the exploration of their aesthetic preferences and facilitated the exchange of detailed feedback on references, moodboards, and several stages of design throughout.

DESIGN + MARKETING

This collaboration resulted in the development of flower iconography, symbolizing RYP’s impact on youth development and integrating the letters “RYP” as inspired by one intern’s sketch. The modern font, vibrant colors, and bold iconography effectively capture the spirit and optimism of a future influenced by Roxbury Youth Programs.
